Burning for Change,:African Hot Sauce Creates Development.

How would you cultivate a deeper relationship with the community you’d like to serve?

Back in 2008, I did development work in one of the poorest countries in the world, Malawi. despite the grinding poverty they endured, the people’s lives seemed filled with happiness. They were so kind and friendly too. I fell in love with Malawi, but also with a delicious local hot sauce, Nali. I would like to create a nonprofit importation and distribution company. I would import Nali into the U.S. and use the proceeds from selling it to support nonprofits, both in the U.S. and in Malawi. These nonprofits would work in the categories of healthcare, education and in fostering financial independence. I would visit and monitor the nonprofits we supported and create a relationship with both them and the clients which they serve.

How would you use the $1,000 to turn your idea into a reality?

I would like to use this grant to go back to Malawi. I would make a deal with the owner, Mr. Khoromana, and import Nali for consumption in the U.S. I would also visit Malawians and see what projects and nonprofits are making a difference in their lives. I would select nonprofits to support there, make contacts, talk to their clients and set up a relationship with both the organizations and those whom they serve.
